Evolution Gaming’s award-winning Lightning series has become one of the most popular franchises at online casinos. Following the success of Lightning Roulette and Lightning Dice, Evolution released Lightning Baccarat in 2020.
The latest Lightning game follows the standard rules of baccarat, but this has been combined with huge-payout RNG multipliers and thrilling live play. As with all Evolution titles, this action is overseen by professional dealers in state-of-the-art studios, and the game also comes with interactive chat features. Our Lightning Baccarat review covers everything you need to know.
Our overall rating: 8.3
Many of the same rules for standard baccarat apply for Lightning Baccarat. Like the classic version, the aim is to predict whose hand, the player’s or the banker’s, will win by having the value closest to nine. You can also bet on a tie.
After you’ve placed your bet, both the player and the banker receive two cards. The winner is whoever has the highest hand value up to a total of nine. In baccarat, cards two to nine have their face value, an ace is worth one, and 10s and face cards are worth zero.
If a hand has a value over 10, only the second digit of the number counts. For example, if the hand is worth 15, its baccarat value is five. Hands worth eight or nine are known as a “natural” and cannot have any more cards added to them. If a hand is worth under eight, either the player or banker can choose to add a third card to it using the third-card rule. In Lightning Baccarat, you can also place side bets, which we’ll discuss in more detail below.
However, the main selling point of Lightning Baccarat is the Lightning Round, which can deliver supercharged payouts.
As baccarat is a game of chance, there is no strategy you can apply to guarantee a win in every round. However, we can provide some tips that will help you have more control over your bankroll when playing Lightning Baccarat:
Bet on the banker: One of the best baccarat tips is to bet on the banker. This is because the banker bet has the lowest house edge among the three main bets in baccarat, meaning you have a higher probability of winning when you bet on the banker instead of the player or the tie.
Go for the risky tie bet: In standard baccarat, players often avoid the tie bet altogether because it has a very high house edge in comparison to the other two options. However, in Lightning Baccarat, this is your only chance to get the biggest multiplier and corresponding payout, so it may be worth the risk if you’re looking to win big.
Remember the extra fees: When playing Lightning Baccarat, all your bets come with a 20% fee on top to enter you in the Lightning Round. If you don’t feel this is worth it, you may be better suited to playing standard live baccarat games.
Don’t go for all-in bets: The $500 maximum bet limit and opportunity to win boosted payouts can make it tempting to bet larger amounts of money or go all in. These bets are extremely risky and can result in you losing your entire bankroll in one go. Instead of going for all-in bets, you should spread your bets over several rounds and make small and consistent wagers.
Set your budget beforehand: In order to play Lightning Baccarat responsibly, you should set yourself a budget. This will ensure you don’t gamble more than you can afford, and prevent you from chasing losses. An excellent way to do this is to set deposit and wagering limits on your live casino account, which is a function often available in the casino’s responsible gaming tools.
To distinguish Lightning Baccarat from standard baccarat, the game comes with some unique and exciting additional features:
As with the other titles in Evolution’s Lightning series, Lightning Baccarat features a Lightning Round. However, unlike other Lightning titles, you’re automatically eligible to win increased payouts via this round, but must pay a 20% Lightning Fee on your stake to accommodate for this.
The Lightning Round begins after bets have been placed. The random number generator (RNG) randomly engine randomly selects up to five cards (known as Lightning Cards) from a standard 52-card deck to receive a multiplier. The available multipliers are 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, and 8x. If two or more cards with multipliers were drawn on a winning bet, the multipliers combine, meaning your payout can be boosted up to a maximum of 262,144x if you made a tie bet.
Along with standard baccarat bets, Lightning Baccarat also offers two side bets paying 9:1 odds, known as the Banker Pair and Player Pair. These bets pay out if either the player or banker get two cards of the same value.
Lightning Baccarat has a return to player (RTP) of up to 98.76%, which is slightly lower than standard baccarat. This is down to a couple of reasons. Firstly, you have to pay an extra 20% fee on top of your bet to take part in the Lightning Round. The payouts for a successful tie bet or side bet are also lower than in standard baccarat.
However, Lightning Baccarat makes up for this with the multipliers on offer in the Lightning Round. Multipliers can be combined should you have more than one Lightning Card in your winning hand, meaning the max potential payout on a successful player or banker bet is 512x your stake, while on tie bets it is a massive 262,144x your stake (capped at $500,000).
You can see all the available payouts in Lightning Baccarat below:
Bet | Lightning Baccarat Payout | Standard Baccarat Payout |
---|---|---|
Player (no multiplier) | 1:1 | 1:1 |
Player (multiplier) | Up to 512:1 | - |
Banker (no multiplier) | 1:1 (5% commission taken on winnings) | 1:1 (5% commission taken on winnings) |
Banker (multiplier) | Up to 512:1 | - |
Tie (no multiplier) | 5:1 | 8:1/9:1 |
Tie (multiplier) | Up to 262,144:1 | - |
Pair | 9:1 | 11:1 |
Lightning Baccarat is limited in terms of how much (or little) you can bet. The betting range is between $1 and $500 per round.
A minimum bet of $1 per round may be considered high by budget players, but it’s hard to find high-quality live baccarat games that allow you to wager less. Equally, $500 is a small maximum limit compared to other live casino games such as Lightning Roulette, which offers a max bet of $2,000.
Then again, Lightning Baccarat does have a maximum win limit of $500,000, meaning there is a chance to get your hands on seriously large payouts.
Lightning Baccarat is a game that you can easily play on your mobile device. HTML5 technology allows the game to adapt to different platforms and run smoothly on any mobile browser and screen size.

Evolution Gaming has done it again and delivered another exceptional game within its Lightning series. This time, the company has created an exciting new twist on the classic baccarat card game with multipliers that offer players the chance to win big.
Players may be disappointed by the limited betting range, while the automatic 20% fee on bets may not suit those on a budget. Then again, if you’re a fan of baccarat and enjoy volatility, Lightning Baccarat is definitely worth s try.
