Caesars Casino history

1966 brought the opening of Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, which kickstarted the Caesars Empire. In 1973, Caesars made history as the first casino company to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange. It would later open Caesars Atlantic City, becoming one of the top properties in the East Coast’s most famous gaming destination.

Since then, its most significant expansion occurred in 2005, when Harrah’s purchased the casino. Eldorado Gaming then acquired the combined company more than a decade later, becoming the current incarnation of Caesars Entertainment players the world over know today.

As many would expect, Caesars Casino has also become a household name on the online gambling scene. One of the key elements of this was its online debut in 2013, launching sites in New Jersey and also Pennsylvania. Michigan and West Virginia are now also part of the company’s online portfolio, with other markets also potentially on the cards for the future.

The site was one of the first out of the gate in New Jersey in 2013 and has since established a prominent presence in the Garden State.

Caesars’ iGaming platforms are also seeing gaming win declines year-to-date. The Caesars license, which includes the company’s flagship Caesars Palace Online Casino as well as Harrah’s and WSOP, has seen gaming win decline19% for the first 10 months of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. The Tropicana license, which includes another eponymous Caesars-owned brand, has a 3.2% year-over-year gaming win decline.

October 2023: Caesars NJ casino platforms see revenue improvement

Caesars’ New Jersey online casino platforms saw a September internet gaming win increase in September 2023 compared to the same period a year earlier.

The Tropicana online casino increased gaming win by nearly 72% between September 2023 and the same month a year earlier. The digital casino's September 2023 win was roughly $8.4m in September 2023 compared to roughly $4.9m in September 2022.

This comes as internet gaming win from Caesars’ flagship online casino platforms in New Jersey declined more than 38% between September 2023 and September 2022, according to a report from state regulators.

Internet gaming win from sites under the Caesars Interactive platform license declined from roughly $9m to $5.6m year-over-year. This figure encompasses Caesars Palace Online, Harrah's Casino, and WSOP.com, which make up the majority of the revenue, as well as 888 platforms and WynnBet.com.

New Jersey officials don’t break up revenue by individual sites but instead by licenses affiliated with the state’s brick-and-mortar casinos.

Caesars’ collective improvement comes as New Jersey’s collective regulated online gaming offerings increased more than 21% from $135.2m to $163.8m from the prior year-over-year period. For the year-to-date period, internet gaming win reported by casinos and their partners was $1.4b, reflecting growth of 15.4% when compared to $1.22 billion for the prior year-to-date period, per NJ officials.

Caesars is rebranding its flagship Caesars Casino platform under the Caesars Palace name. This includes a new separate mobile betting app, replacing the prior Caesars offering directly tied to the company’s eponymous mobile sportsbook.
